Caring Hearts of South Carolina
With a mission to “restore hope, happiness, and fill the needs of families who are dealing with a critical illness or injury,” Caring Hearts of South Carolina is making an impact in the Lowcountry.
“It is our dream to foster hope and happiness by fulfilling wishes of families going through these hardships,” said Chelsea Brendlen, who started the nonprofit last year with her husband, Barry.
Wishes include granting a trip, watching a sporting event or going to an amusement park, and providing holiday gifts to shelters and hospitals.
Last October the organization held its first fundraiser, a softball tournament at Volunteer Park in Ridgeland. Sponsors included the SERG Group, Bluffton Pizza Co., Chick-Fil-A, Home Depot, Coastal Sunset Car Wash, Engel & Volkers and Delta Gas Solutions.
The community has contributed. Entertainer Shannon Tanner helped last winter with the “Christmas Wishes from Caring Hearts” by reading Christmas wish letters from nurses at Dwayne & Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. Edwin McCain joined him.
The Brendlen’s Lowcountry Christmas display raised $11,500, which was donated to Caring Hearts of South Carolina. The donations helped four children at the Children’s Hospital and two other children from other nonprofits in the community.
Caring Hearts of South Carolina is focused on the Lowcountry, but offers help for those throughout the country.
